Hello Everyone,
As most of you already know, I'm currently in the process of building a 55h reef tank, upgraded from my old 20g high. Unfortunately, Marine Velvet was introduced to the tank. This killed of all the stock, and we are now on week 2 of the stagnant process. The plan for the tank is to make it an Austalian Reef. Lots of Acans and Acropora. The current equipment is: Reef Octopus Bh-1000 Hob Skimmer (wouldn't recommend) 75lbs of Reef Rocks Now Live Rock 50lbs of Sand Two Jebao Wp-25 (Amazing, would recommend) 200 watt Heater
There currently aren't any Corals or Inverts in the tank either. However, lights should be ordered very soon.

Nice! Can't wait to see some pics of this Mac. I noticed the comment about the HOB Skimmer, that's the one I was looking at getting for my 36. What's your experience been with it?

This is the larger version of 100. I had huge leak problems in side the pump, and it was screwed correctly. I had to use plumbers putty and tape to get it right enough. It skims ok, but the cup fills up with water, and it's hard to find that sweet spot. It also makes a ton of micro bubbles. I've had it for 4 weeks, and it's supposed to have stopped micro bubbles already. I'm giving it more time though.

I do have a whole chamber area I could use... Putting filter floss for the micro bubble stopper instead of sponges would be interesting.

It works in a way. So what are your thoughts towards your stocking now?

I've been researching some different Aussie fish. I think a little school of Cardinals would be very cool, them or some chromis. Not sure I want to introduce clowns or not. Open to any suggestions really!

Have you had any experience with this one? Seems to have gotten some good reviews.

I don't know much about the aqua max HOBs, but I have heard good things. Just go with the Reef Ocotpus, I'm sure it will be great.

I'm sure it will be, main thing is I need to look at measurements of the back of the tank again. Need to make sure I got room for that and my HOB Fuge also. Want to get rid of one of the filters, keep the more powerful one, and add the other two. Not to mention a GFO Reactor.

I don't even run a hob filter of any kind on my 55. Just a skimmer. This thing is huge, it takes up the entire right side of the back. Mine is a larger model though. I need to get carbon and GFO reactor for my tank too, they work wonders IMO.

How about a pair of skunk clownfish over ocellaris or percs? I like the cardinal idea, banggais are nice.

The skunk clownfish would be interesting. They'd be a different mix for the tank.

Well if that is the case I will look for a larger skimmer and go that route then. Do the HOB skimmers tend to be quiet? The HOB filters I have right now are loud....even when the water line is almost at the top.

Open to any suggestions really! Haven't had any issue with the Black Ocellaris I have so far. Strolls all over the tank all day and then at night, digs him a little hole and goes to sleep lol. I do have 2 Yellow and Black Chromis and they are great. Very active and eat like pigs lol. Have you checked them out yet?

I've had many issues with Occellaris clowns, but once I move mine to the 55, their behavior changes so much. I would never keep them in less then a 30 again.

At the beginning I thought it was a little loud, but it has died down a ton! Of course, I plan on adding the reactors, so the filter wouldn't be a problem anyway.
